How to Commission a Bespoke Engagement Ring

How to Commission a Bespoke Engagement Ring

We know buying an engagement ring can be daunting, but whether you are secretly designing a bespoke piece to propose with, or you want to design it together, we could not be more delighted to get to be a small part of your love story.

If you have been wondering "What is the engagement ring commissioning process?" or "What should I expect during a ring consultation?" then this is the blog for you!

If you would like a fully bespoke piece we would be more than happy to make a completely unique piece for you. Perhaps it’s something you have dreamed up yourself, a hybrid of several designs you have seen online. Due to the time, care and detail involved in creating a completely unique piece there is a minimum spend involved in remodels and completely bespoke projects so make sure to share your budget with us. We always do our best to design around it so there are no surprises.

If you don't want to go fully bespoke, you can choose to customise or personalise each piece of our jewellery as it is handmade individually. Change the colour, cut or size of stone or choose a different precious metal alloy, platinum, 9ct, 14ct or 18ct yellow, white, or rose gold. If you have sentimental jewellery you would like remodelled we can discuss your options too.

The Bespoke Process

We start with a consultation. We would love to welcome you into our studio in Swindon, but can of course arrange an online consultation too. In this consultation we discuss your ideas (or lack there of!). It is absolutely fine if you don't know what you want and would like use to design the piece for you.

After this chat we will create up to 5 sketches based on the design you have in mind. These sketches can be revised once based on your feedback. We can of course go back and forth as many times as necessary to make sure the piece is perfect for you, but this extra time will cost a little extra.

Once you have approved your deign, your piece will be created using whichever techniques best suit your design, either fully hand fabricated or Computer Aided Design and hand finishing.

We will individually source your stones and set them by hand. If you are choosing a unique gemstone and would like to select the exact stone used we can send detailed images or have you into the studio to make the selection in person.

Once your piece is made, we provide your new jewellery in our signature packaging and welcome you to collect or we can ship it to you.

If you  would like to start the journey please fill out this form, if you have any questions about the process please get in touch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Over the years our customers have asked a lot of the same questions, so I thought it would be helpful to put together of list of FAQ's specifically for bespoke enquiries. I hope they help!

What does bespoke jewellery mean?

A bespoke piece of jewellery is a one-of-a-kind design made uniquely for you (or someone you love!). It can be based on your own design, or inspired by any of our previous pieces. We can design it from scratch together so that no one else in the world will have exactly the same piece.

What is the difference between custom and bespoke?

Bespoke is designed from scratch. Customised pieces are based on our pieces but with personalisation like the metal of your choice or diamond and gemstone of your choice.

Can I get a unique engagement ring that no one else has?

Of course! We do not believe in mass produced jewellery, the more unique the better!

How much should I spend on an engagement ring?

No matter what people say, there is no right and wrong to this. The cost of an engagement ring will depend on your own financial position and the taste of the person who will receive it. We always design to your budget. For example, if you know your partner would like a very large diamond, we would source a natural diamond if you have a large budget, but could source a lab grown diamond if your budget is tighter. There are options for every budget.

How do I choose an engagement ring?

You don't have to do it alone! Many partners will advise on the type of engagement ring they would like. If it is a total surprise then try looking at the jewellery she already has for metal colour and style ideas. Or you could ask her trusted friend or siblings for advice.

How long does it take to make a bespoke engagement ring?

Generally we would say 8-14 weeks. The timeline depends on the design though, some designs can take longer than others. If you aren't sure what you want this can add a lot of design time on for example.

Can I design my own engagement ring?

Absolutely! If you have ideas, we can't wait to see them.

What metal is best for an engagement ring?

This is a personal choice, it depends on your own style and preferences. We offer 18ct yellow gold, white gold, rose gold and platinum.

Can I use a family heirloom in my engagement ring?

Absolutely! There are a few caveats to this though and is considered on a case by case basis depending on the design and the gold provided. So get in touch if you want to find our more about using your own family gold in a commission.

Can I resize an engagement ring?

Yes! If you propose and the size isn't quite right, we are happy to offer one complementary resizing.
