How much does a bespoke/custom engagement ring cost?

How much does a bespoke/custom engagement ring cost?

Arguably THE biggest question I get asked - How much does a bespoke ring cost?

Well... how long is a piece of string?!

Joking aside, there are so many variables when it comes to bespoke jewellery which all affect the end cost of a bespoke engagement ring. The best starting point is to think about the following aspects of the ring, which will affect the price:

Central stone: diamond, lab diamond, gemstone?
Accent stones?
Material: platinum, gold?
Personalisation: engravings, hidden gemstones?

The more extras we add to a design (stones, engravings, details), the higher the cost will be for design, sourcing and labour.

Another point to make, is that when you start the process of designing a bespoke ring, is that you are paying for a designers years of skill, creativity and experience. We are able to advise you on best approaches, materials and ideas you may have not yet considered. The difference between this and going to a High St jeweller, is that you are not going to end up with a piece that has been mass produced and designed for a huge market of consumers. You will end up with a piece that celebrates you as a couple, your story. For a piece of jewellery you will wear for the rest of your life deserves to be utterly treasured and special.

My advice:

Get in touch with your favourite jewellers for an initial chat and rough quotes, then you can get a feel for the type of price point you're looking at. It's always really helpful when clients share their budget, as we can let you know what's achievable within that. You'll get a feeling for which jeweller you want to go for, the vibe and trust will be there, and then you can get to the fun part!

A Google review from one of our actual clients, Ian, about his bespoke engagement ring journey with Hannah McDanielson Jewellery:

Where do I start? I’m so grateful to Hannah for creating a beautiful bespoke sapphire engagement ring for me to give to my partner.

I’d never commissioned jewellery before, so I was a apprehensive at first, but the whole process was easy and enjoyable. Hannah and Ellie guided me through everything and kept me updated along the way.

Right from my first enquiry, Hannah stood out — she showed real enthusiasm and interest in my idea, unlike some of the other jewellers I had approached, who felt quite cold and transactional.

After an initial exchange of emails where we talked through designs and budget, she came up with some brilliant concepts and was always open to my input while offering great advice when needed. It was exciting watching the project take shape.

The final cost remained within my overall budget, but did rise from the initial quote as is to be expected as the idea evolved. Hannah was completely transparent about where any additional costs where coming from. I never felt pressured or rushed and I always felt I had the necessary information to make the best decision for me.

Most importantly of all, when the ring was delivered and I opened it for the first time, I was absolutely stunned at how beautiful it was. My partner loved it and it definitely made it more special knowing it was something unique I had helped to create.

To conclude, the whole experience was 10/10. If you are looking for a reliable, thoughtful and talented jeweller you have found her.
